- What you will need:
- Required: Guide Track Video. Download using link in email from WeTransfer (Subject: yorknorth@comcast.net sent you files via WeTransfer).
- Device (Laptop, tablet, or phone) to play guide track while you sing
- Headphones/earbuds to plug into your device to listen to the guide track
- Second device to record yourself singing
- A place in your home that is neat, with good lighting and has a stable spot to place your phone at about head level (dresser, ladder, etc.).
- It’s ok if we see your earbuds or headphones.
- A black shirt so we’re consistent in our “look”
- Get ready
- Watch the Guide Track Video for your vocal part.
- Set your recording device to record at 1080p (1920×1080) @30 fps or similar (file size will be large).
- Practice / Record your Video*:
- Place your recording device at about head level, sideways for a landscape result. Plug in headphones.
- Start video recording on the device (or not if you are just practicing).
- Start your Guide Track Video on your second device. It will tell you when to start singing.
- Sing! Emote as though you are in front of an audience!
- After the song ends, the Guide Track Video will tell you to remain in place (smile) and when to go stop the video recording.
- Review your video, re-do as desired, and once happy, continue to next step!
- Upload and send the Video
- IMPORTANT: To maximize upload speed and prevent data plan cost, make sure your phone is connected to WiFi. Videos can be large!
- You do NOT need to rename your file. Your email address will tell David who it’s from.
- Follow this link to WeTransfer.com. After agreeing/accepting cookies as requested, select the blue plus sign (or the blue ‘Send Files?’ button on the phone interface)
- Select your video to transfer, and specify yorknorth@comcast.net as the recipient email.
- Congratulations! We will confirm receipt of your video, will look it over, and then let you know if we are all set or if further actions are needed. Thank you!
* Special Section for perfectionists and/or the camera shy.
If you prefer you can record your audio ONLY first and THEN record a video where your singing won’t matter. We’ll use a separate application (Easy Voice Recorder on Android, or Voice Memos iPhone). Here’s how:
- If using an Android phone, download Easy Voice Recorder from the Play Store, and open it. If using an iPhone, open Voice Memos (should already be installed and may be under Utilities). Plug in your headphone.
- Start recording on the recording application (or not if you are just practicing).
- Start your Guide Track Video. It will tell you when to start singing.
- Sing! Emote for the heck of it to improve your sound!
- After the song ends, you can ignore the guide track and stop recording.
- Once happy with your voice recording, use WeTransfer.com to send your video to yorknorth@comcast.net.
- IMPORTANT: You STILL need to record and send in your video using steps 3 & 4 above. But now you can relax because we’ll just use the video and not that audio track.
